This game was a last-minute fixture organised through the Conference as a replacement for our scheduled game against Teddington.

Nothing to write home about! After a fantastic 4/16 spell from Deepak Ramachandra and a rarely seen tight fielding performance by KCC, a disappointing batting collapse cost us the game.

After restricting the home team for an under-par score of 181, KCC’s strong batting line up failed to click against a bowling attack that was easily negotiable. Rohan went early chasing a ball well outside off and Tim played across the line to a ball that was on the stumps. With two wickets down both Amit and skipper Shahzeb tried to stabilise the innings but were out after getting set with individual scores in the 20s. KCC’s bowling all-rounder Ali Bilgrami scored a fiery 25 and with 10 overs to go to get 57 runs the game was well poised. But then the tail collapsed in a heap, the last 5 wickets falling for just 15 runs.

For Hornsey, Harris scored a sensible, patient 50 and was well supported by Gulshan who managed a few maximums in his 38. Later on Gulshan took 3 wickets. But the main damage was done by Hornsey’s opening bowler Innes who took 2 wickets for 9 runs in his eight-over spell. Harris for his 50 and Deepak for his excellent bowling were declared Men of the Match.

A new fixture picked up via the conference, and a belter of a game.

Hornsey batted first in the glorious sunshine, and the two highlights of their innings belonged to two lads with a combined age of just 24. 11 year old Ben Wain more than held his own against a strong KCC attack, making a solid 30.  Even more impressive was 13 year old Jack Bruce, who flayed the KCC bowling to all parts of the ground on his way to an unbeaten 50.  Helped by some wayward bowling (57 extras topped the scoring), 6 dropped catches, 2 missed stumpings and 1 missed run out (doesn’t sound like KCC…), Hornsey posted a formidable score of 228.

With David Behar in scintillating form, KCC raced out of the blocks and had 53 on the board after just 4 overs.  David’s dismissal for 45 sparked a mini-collapse, but with Rohan joining Ajit at the crease they formed what looked like the match defining innings.  A mix up between the wickets left Rohan stranded, his run out giving Hornsey the upper hand.  Even with the run-rate increasing, KCC were always in sight of victory with Hammad, Khush and Saurav joining the chase.  This meant playing for the draw was out of the question.

Needing 16 off the final over but with only 1 wicket in hand, 7 in the first 3 balls made things interesting, but the final wicket fell with KCC 8 short of the target.
