Sun 2 June Cheshunt Won by 77 runs
We 200/9 in 40 overs (Ajit Ramsagar 71, Gautom Menon 47*, Extras 38, England 2/30)
They 123/10 in 32 overs (Dugdale 41*, M.Richardson 31, Pope 22, David Behar 5/16, Sakib Ola 3/16)
A return to Cheshunt, whom we used to play regularly in years past, as a replacement fixture via the Club Cricket Conference. After winning the toss, Chris elected to bat first on an uneven pitch. From the start, classy opener Ajit Ramsagar, in good form throughout last season, dominated the innings with his silky skills, compiling 71 excellent runs. Following Ajit’s dismissal with just 8 overs to go, Gautom Menon played a very different innings, but exactly what was required, bludgeoning the ball to all parts in the final overs slog. Extras were the next highest contributor with 38.
In reply, Cheshunt got off to a slow, steady start with recent recruit Saikat Barua’s bowling difficult to score off. Having reached 55 for the fall of just one wicket in the first 16 overs, however, Cheshunt were in a good position to kick on, requiring 6 an over for the second half of their innings with 9 wickets in hand. Enter Sakib Ola and David Behar. After Sakib dismissed three of Cheshunt’s top order in quick succession with some excellent pace bowling, David finished things off – the joker in the pack unexpectedly coming up trumps with his bowling rather than his batting. Bamboozled, Cheshunt’s lower order collapsed like ninepins, presenting David with his first ever five-wicket haul, and KCC with an overwhelming 77 run victory.
