If golf’s a good way to ruin a nice walk, might cricket not equally be characterised as an unwelcome interruption to afternoon tea?  For some KCC cricketers (Jon Pickles), undoubtedly so.  There was some good cricket (and not so good cricket) played on both sides.  To match the bucolic setting, batsmen struck the ball lustily to the boundary and bowlers toiled honestly to the crease.  However, it was Shilpa Bharambe’s wonderful tea that took centre stage and which put all cricketing exploits in the shade.  It was hard work persuading us back out on the field after tea!  So thanks Shilpa for your delicious home-made snacks and chutneys.  In fact, here’s a word of thanks for all those slices of Victoria sponge cake, scotch eggs, melon slices and hula hoops that sustain cricketers up and down the country.  Would we be able to make it through a day’s cricket without them?

For the record, Sunny Bharambe and Dom Rea Long put on 129 for LHCC’s first wicket.  Dom took home the whisky for his 66.  LH declared on 172 for 7.  Akhi took 3 for 13. A friend of Akhi’s, Karthik Rameshchand, smashed an unstoppable hundred at the top of KCC’s innings before retiring with the total on 170.  Naser Regan supported with a belligerent 65 but out next ball.  Stefanos, promoted up the order, managed only 1. Neej and San saw KCC home with an unbeaten 3rd wicket stand of 2 full of nous, graft and hard running between the wickets.
